Bayern Munich restore eight-point lead at the top

Bayern Munich restored an eight-point lead at the top of the Bundesliga standings by strolling to a 3-0 win over Hoffenheim on Friday (Aug 26)

Jamal Musiala, Sadio Mane and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting scored for Julian Nagelsmann's team as they made it 11 wins in 11 league games this season.

Victory at the Allianz Arena means Bayern have lost just one of their last 25 league outings and they move eight points clear of second-placed Union Berlin, who face Borussia Dortmund on Sunday.

Bayern's 18 points is their best-ever start to a Bundesliga season, with Union having now been leapfrogged by Borussia Dortmund and Freiburg.

The result leaves Hoffenheim in 15th place, just one point above the relegation play-off spot, and piled more pressure on their head coach, Andre Breitenreiter.

Bayern were in control from the off as Musiala skipped past two defenders before calmly slotting home from the edge of the box after just seven minutes. 10 minutes later, Mane made it 2-0, tapping in from close range after a low cross from Musiala.

Choupo-Moting sealed the win for Bayern 10 minutes after the break, firing home from a tight angle after some good work down the left from Alphonso Davies.

Bayern were able to take their foot off the gas in the second half, with Hoffenheim rarely threatening to spoil the party in Bavaria.

Nagelsmann's side now turn their attention to Tuesday's Champions League clash at home to Inter Milan, while Hoffenheim host Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga next Saturday.
