Erling Haaland Lashes Out at Referee on Social Media

Haaland's Frustration Stems from Controversial Call

Former Referee Weighs in on Late Decision

Erling Haaland has taken to social media to express his frustration following a controversial decision by referee Simon Hooper in Manchester City's 3-3 draw against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday. The decision in question came in stoppage time, when VAR ruled out a potential winning goal for City.

Haaland was particularly critical of Hooper, posting on Twitter: "No explanation of what happened. No VAR check. No nothing. Just a decision that goes against us. It's not the first time it's happened and it won't be the last."

Former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher has since had his say on Hooper's decision, saying that he can understand Haaland's frustration but that the decision was ultimately correct. Gallagher explained that the VAR had determined that Julian Alvarez, who was offside when the ball was played, had interfered with Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.

Despite Gallagher's explanation, Haaland's criticism highlights the growing frustration among players and fans over the use of VAR in football. Many argue that VAR is taking the human element out of the game and leading to a more inconsistent application of the rules.

The controversy over Hooper's decision is likely to continue, and it will be interesting to see if it leads to any changes in the way VAR is used in the future.
