Flooded Streets and Rivers Cause Major Disruptions

Heavy, persistent rainfall in the Saarland on Friday has led to the closure of numerous roads. Rivers in several towns have overflowed, creating a severe flood risk. The Saar River has flooded, causing the closure of the A620 motorway between Saarbrücken and Völklingen.

The flood situation in the Saarland remains critical, with several towns still experiencing high water levels. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz visited the affected areas and pledged support to those impacted by the flooding.

The floodwaters are gradually receding, but the situation remains tense in many places. Emergency services are working around the clock to pump water and clear debris, while residents are returning to their homes to assess the damage.
