The 1999 Bridge Creek-Moore tornado, locally known as the May 3 tornado, was a massive and exceptionally powerful twister. It tore through west-central Oklahoma and southern Kansas, leaving behind a trail of destruction that claimed the lives of 76 people and injured hundreds more.
The tornado was an F5 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale, the highest rating for a tornado. It reached wind speeds of up to 300 miles per hour and traveled over 40 miles. It destroyed homes, businesses, and entire neighborhoods, leaving behind scenes of complete devastation.
