How to Remove Acrylic Nails Safely at Home
Step-by-Step Guide to Removing Acrylic Nails
Materials you'll need:
- Pure acetone - Cotton balls or nail wraps - Nail file or buffer - Cuticle pusher or orange stick - Hand cream or cuticle oil
Instructions:
1. File the top layer of the acrylic nails: Use a nail file or buffer to remove the shiny top layer of the acrylic nails. This will make the acetone more effective.
2. Soak the nails in acetone: Soak cotton balls or nail wraps in pure acetone and place them over the acrylic nails. Wrap the tips of your fingers with aluminum foil or plastic wrap to secure the cotton balls or wraps.
3. Wait 15-20 minutes: The acetone will help to dissolve the acrylic nails. Most of the acrylic will come off easily, but some may still be attached to the natural nails.
4. Gently push off the remaining acrylic: Use a cuticle pusher or orange stick to gently push off any remaining acrylic from the natural nails. Do not force it, as this can damage your natural nails.
5. File and buff the natural nails: Once all of the acrylic has been removed, file and buff the natural nails to smooth any rough edges and remove any leftover residue.
6. Moisturize your nails and cuticles: Apply hand cream or cuticle oil to hydrate your nails and cuticles, which may have become dry during the removal process.
