Masataka Yoshida Homers, But Red Sox Fall Short

Red Sox Lose 5-4 in Extras to Rays

BOSTON, Mass. – Masataka Yoshida homered for the second straight game, but the Boston Red Sox fell to the Tampa Bay Rays 5-4 in extra innings on Saturday night at Fenway Park.

Yoshida's solo homer in the fourth inning gave the Red Sox a 2-1 lead, but the Rays tied it in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Isaac Paredes. Boston regained the lead in the eighth on an RBI single by Yolmer Sanchez, but Tampa Bay again tied it in the ninth on a wild pitch by John Schreiber.

In the 10th inning, the Rays loaded the bases with one out against Matt Barnes. Harold Ramirez then hit a sacrifice fly to give Tampa Bay its first lead of the game. The Rays added another run on a groundout by Paredes to make it 5-3. The Red Sox got one run back in the bottom of the 10th on a single by Reese McGuire, but they could not tie it up.

The loss dropped the Red Sox to 13-17 on the season, while the Rays improved to 17-13.
